Verily, the reality of the situation cannot be gainsaid - were it not for the theft of one's works, could the AI truly function? The answer is a resounding NO. As a designer, it is incumbent upon me to pay for the use of someone's photo as a 3D background or texture in my 3D scene. So why, then, should an entire company be permitted to pilfer all manner of images without so much as a by-your-leave, and use them in their AI?
And it is not just visual artists who suffer, but writers too. Any text can be taken and rendered in the style of Shakespeare. Yet the more AI work that is generated and put online, the next wave of AI learns from itself, and it does not truly evolve but merely recreates what it already knows. Moreover, it discourages real artists from publishing their works online. For they know full well that this infernal robot and company shall steal their style, their identity, and their very soul.
