Do you remember that there used to be people whose definition of consciousness threshold was passing turing tests consistently? Now that we moved long beyond that threshold, so has the goalpost moved, isn't it funny? People's definition of consciousness changed and will keep changing towards the undefinable because we cannot come to terms that the moral underpinning of the consciousness debate is speciescism. We're better (and conscious) because we're us, plain and simple. Not some imaterial, general, impersonal definition. We are all guilty of the "falty" reasoning of approaching the consciousness problem with heavy pride motivated assumptions. I think that, if these people maintained their "weak" definition of consciousness as AI progressed over time and surpassed it, they have commendable intellectual honesty compared to intellectuals who shift goalposts constantly.
