High school English teacher here.
I structure my assignments to bust AI up as best I can. It's terrible at using quotes and is really bad at creating thesis statements that don't match the actual content of the writing. It is also really good at making incredible broad pseudo-intellectual statements about texts without backing them up.
So I structure my assignments to require quotes, highly detailed thesis statements, and requirement detailed exegesis.
It's not perfect, but I am catching people and it lets me fail students without having to accuse them since the AI isn't following the instructions or fulfilling the rubric.
