I just illustrated my first children’s book (shameless plug! Everly and the little red door by Dannika Roggie releases 8/19/25)… the author was briefly pressured to just use AI when she couldn’t find an artist after a few years. It took me 18 months to draw 25 pages while I was working and going to classes… I spent hours drawing out concepts, composing the images, and coming up with secrets and subliminal symbolism in the designs. I use Rebelle which is a program that does its best to replicated traditional art. A year and a half! The book has so much emotional meaning to the author I worked with her to translate that into the illustrations. AI would never understand that.
