Though I hate how toxic some people in the AI community can be, I'm still on the side of AI art. First of all, Laion 5B is not an image database. It is a database of URLs to images and their corresponding descriptions. Second, I argue that AI does learn the same way as people do but at a much faster rate. Just because the machine has the ability to perfectly recreate an image, it doesn't most of the time. The only times I've seen an AI nearly perfectly create an image is when a prompter was intentionally trying to get that result which I do agree is plagiarism. However, that would be the same for a human artist trying to recreate an art piece by hand and passing it off as their own. AI art is just a tool and if the person uses it to plagiarise, then that's not the tool that's the problem, it's the person.
