I'm a software developer and have a bachelors degree in modern art, and the one thing I can say is: artists are missing the point entirely. technology will keep improving and replace a lot of jobs, but if you use it properly, it can be really beneficial. This is the same problem artists had about a 100 years ago, when the work of art was technologically reproducible through mainstream photography. Walter Benjamin wrote an essay on this, it's worth a read. The difference this time is that it's not the work of art that's reproducible, it's the artist himself. And artists are pulling all kinds of strings, trying to get copyright laws passed, banning AI artwork altogether... it's never going to work because the algorithm isn't doing anything wrong to begin with. Artists are trying to solve the wrong problem. AI isn't going away, but artists need to reestablish their identity, rather than pointing fingers at technology.
