Perhaps an odd connection, but there's a similar philosophy by the developers of Minecraft.
When it comes to how they allow the player to interact with the blocky world 99% of the time, the guiding principle is "one block at a time;" you can only remove or place one voxel space in any instant from your position (you can create contraptions that automatically place blocks in limited contexts, but such mechanics are only properly realized by high-level players, and said contraptions still need to be built manually like everything else).
This creates gameplay that connects players to their in-world creations more intimately, as you could say they literally painted it in, as opposed to players just spawning in a structure compared to pre-Minecraft creative games like Garry's Mod.
There is discussion in whether cheats or modded tools that can place and replace many blocks are still in the spirit of the game, but the community has mostly resolved this by seeing builders prepare their complex builds in Creative mode, but still "earn the skill" of that build by recreating in Survival mode block-by-block manually.
