I don’t know why, but I always find hard to believe ai could overtake us mere and imperfect squishy meat bags. For it to grow, it still will need rare earth minerals and infrastructure whose extraction and construction are far from automated. I always felt like the ai threat is a distraction to keep us from acting on the real-world extinction threat that is ecological catastrophe. Ai would be in dire straits without a functioning ecosystem to provide the clean water necessary to cool its data centers and nuclear power plants, or with an atmosphere cool enough so that its infrastructure is not destroyed every now and then by an angry flood or hurricane…
