OK, hear me out on the AI front. There is no conspiracy theory here. Repeat: No Conspiracy Theory. There's just one simple fact: In regard to AI's end goal plan, we are dealing with crazy people.
Look at who is really creating and promoting and owning AI. Sam Altman. Peter Thiel. Guys like that. What do they have in common? Billionaires? Yes, but keep going. Tech Bros? Yes, keep going. Convinced that they are literally gods in human form destined to realize immortality by uploading their consciousness to an AI-driven cosmic network where they will exist forever among the stars, evolved beyond the need for asses? DING DING DING! That's the one.
Remember when Musk came out all alarmist about how AI was going to destroy humanity? Only now he has his own "mecha-n*zi" AI on Xtwit? It's not just about money. I mean, of course, it's about the money right now. But that's not the ultimate objective. That's not the why of AI. Back when AI first burst upon us like the spores of a killer mind-control fungus, there was a big battle of the billionaires over whether it was the best thing ever or the end of the world. But none of them was actually anti-AI. What they were arguing about was method and timing. The pro camp were all "Yes! Let's do this thing!" and the anti camp were all like "No, no, Starlink and Neuralink aren't ready yet! You're going to mess up the Cosmic Consciousness Upload Immortality Project if you do it now!"
I'm not kidding. This was covered by investigative journalists at outlets like The Guardian, ProPublica, and Wired, who were trying to find out what these rich nutjobs were trying to accomplish with this AI BS. I mean, the bizarre fantasy of attainable immortality for the rich has been around for decades. I'm old enough to have heard about it back in the 90s. When the antis said AI would destroy humanity, they were talking about their immortality project. They are so frikkin insane.
I don't believe wealth makes people crazy. I believe that a society that fetishizes wealth as a sign of social status opens the door to the elevation of the kinds of crazy people who take things to the extreme, including wealth accumulation. That's how we lurch helplessly from the unfair wealth and influence of a Bill Gates and a Warren Buffet to the catastrophically destructive wealth and influence of a Sam Altman, a Peter Thiel, and an Elon Musk. They are coo-coo-crazy and everything they do is towards an end goal of their own divine ascendancy, and if they leave the Earth a burnt-out, lifeless husk, okie-dokie. They won't need it anymore, so who cares? And meanwhile, by extension, who cares what chaos and damage they do to We the Peons during the development phases? As soon as they have no more use for us, we can just stop existing.
I'm really serious - they are this nuts. This is something everyone needs to think about when facing the eradication of millions of jobs via AI. We ask, how can this be sustainable? What will happen to all the out-of-work people? How will the economy run if no one can earn any money to buy things? How are we going to stabilize the climate if we keep burning as much fuel as AI demands to run its servers? We ask such questions because we're sane and rational. They are crazy, so none of these issues is on their list of considerations.
If you try to make sense of how to live and work in the AI world, you will fail because it doesn't make any sense.
Now, on the professional respect for artists front, please, younger artists, for the love of everything, never EVER agree to do any kind of work without a clearly written contract that details exactly who owns what, who will get paid how much and when, how long the project is expected to run, what the deliverable finished work should be, and how each party can get out of it if things don't work out. Even if no money is planned to change hands, get the project terms in writing anyway. SIGNED! By BOTH/ALL participants! Even it's a project amongst friends or family. ESPECIALLY if it's among friends or family. Nothing will destroy relationships more brutally than misunderstandings about work, time, and/or money. Get it in writing and protect everyone, including yourself.
