The big "problem" with AI art is that, like every past advancement of machine capability into the space of human endeavors, it is forcing us to reevaluate what makes our existence meaningful. Every time we retrench on something else we think that AI can't do because "it doesn't have a soul," later on it's doing it, and doing it well (first it was chess, then it was go, etc). Since our society on the whole vests value only or primarily in activity and its products, and mechanical tools are systematically encroaching on every activity we've invented to keep ourselves busy when we're not keeping ourselves alive, we are pushed toward one of 3 conclusions: (1) AI have souls, because they can do what we say takes a soul; (2) we don't have souls, because AI can do what we can; (3) we have to look for meaning somewhere other than activity and its products. I feel like only one of these is an avenue to avoiding universal human despair, but we'll see which way people choose to jump.
