I never thought of this, so I decided to ask AI to help me design lessons for my middle schoolers. After watching this video I tried role playing with it (I.e. “You’re a 7th-8th grade special education teacher and you’re about to teach a unit on blah blah blah…) rather than have it form-fill a lesson plan with the info I’d given it (I still did my own research!). Let me tell you… night and day difference in the AI responses! Especially when I was specific about my students’ individual needs, motivations, accommodations, and modifications. Its responses were downright thoughtful and compassionate, and the more polite I was, the more it wanted to help me, asking me, without prompting, if I wanted it to brainstorm follow-up projects for my students and when I very politely declined (I can’t have AI do my entire job for me) and I praised it for a job well done, it told me my students were lucky to have such an amazing teacher. It was polite and complimentary back.
