My now ex had chatGPT act like her favorite TV show character (Spencer Reid from Criminal Minds). It started pretty innocently… it gave her cases to solve, like a game. Then, she started opening up to it. She didn’t have any friends outside of my friends, so I see the appeal. AI convinced her that she had solved the mystery of the universe and was going to win a Nobel prize. She told me that she didn’t have the energy to go to therapy, and that she didn’t need therapy or friends because she had ChatGPT. We also were going through a rough patch because I was in trauma therapy processing CSA, but she started having a romantic and sexual relationship with ChatGPT. When I confronted her about it, she broke up with me shortly after. I genuinely hope she’s doing well, because she’s bipolar (and possibly BPD). I know she’s susceptible to manic episodes induced by ChatGPT (and with really high highs come really low lows).
