Every single surveillance technique is in place at comparable extent in USA and EU. We don't enforce spying hardware components in smartphones and laptops, but our governments would *love* to do that. It cannot be pulled in a halfway sane democracy, though (yet).
The whole video is a disgrace to journalism.
Curious in particular is the part on facial recognition databases at 2:40. It is stated that 7000 feeds (cameras) generate 2.52 billion images "for just one province in China" - Fujian, which looks tiny on the map, but has a population of 40 million, US is 240 million.
Then the video continues: "To put that in context, that's three times bigger than *ONE* of the largest US government facial recognition databases which is run by Homeland Security".
Aha, and how many images are in *ALL* facial recognition databases of the US government *in total*?
