Hey, I would like to share something. I both draw and use ai at the same time, so I know what it's like to be on both. However, I wouldn't really throw AI out, although it has a lot of problems already. Instead, what I would like to say is you're are pretty much correct on many aspects of what AI has that are negatives... but on the reference thing, I would like disagree to an extent. If you use AI as a reference and only focus ok that exact design, I agree that's a horrible choice. However, I don't view AI like that, I view it more as a suggestion and a general idea you can possibly benefit from. Of course, AI will not make something if it's too original, forcing you on your own, but if it has an idea that you can borrow, you can do that. Of course, when AI makes something, what people can do is critique and correct what the AI has made into something far greater than what it originally had. It's like tracing. It's a bad habit until you finally start to become more established, and you can even ditch AI entirely. Unfortunately for me, I'm not really satisfied with my drawings, but that's because I wasn't even into drawing in the first place, I'm more i to 3d animation, and I have friends who draw that can help me. Even though they draw stuff, they also use AI art for fun or even to use them for the reason I just said. Why can't they just look it up? Well, what if they can't even find it in the first place? They could just hire someone to do that, but... you already know how expensive everything is today. Also, about the AI costing too much? Yeah, it costs a lot for a single month, but some of these artists I saw charged $80 for a single drawing of a single person, which a friend of mine got mad at cause he can do the same for $10 including color and shading. So yeah, paying $100 for a month is asking a lot, but paying $100 for a single character is simply not worth it. Hell, I'm poorer than many people, and with how high people charge... I'm better off with AI, thank you.
