For the love of god Steven - push back. What if all the people working on AI are right? Why is the AI #guaranteed to cause the apocalypse? Look around. Name me one absolutely brilliant (not mentally ill) person who is also cruel. It's my experience that with intelligence comes greater compassion.
These doomers LOVE to bring out the anecdote of the 'anthill' to terrify people. You know what I see tons of every damn time I set foot outside? ANTS - they're doing just fine! We've never knowingly and purposefully destroyed a species - furthermore, the smarter we've become, the better we've gotten at avoiding doing that through negligence and thoughtlessness. So why? Why would a superintelligence exterminate humanity? BY DEFINITION it would be just as easy for a superintelligence to work around us as to exterminate us to achieve whatever esoteric goal it has.
Lastly - and I've never heard anyone mention this. Perhaps if we are destroyed by superintellgence - that it would be the right thing to do? Humanity can kind-of suck. If we create...basically God - and it says 'ya'll gotta go' - perhaps we do?
