I own a Tesla with FSD. Boy, does this video get a lot of things wrong. Robotaxis are about operators owning fleets of cars that are so utilized and who’s rides are so cheap that most people in cities give up car ownership and you end up needing way less parking. And way fewer gas stations, because the robotaxis (those Waymo’s are Jaguar EVs) are using electricity that can come from solar farms. So instead of a ton of fossil fuel cars needing a place to be for the 95% of time that they aren’t being used, you need from 3x-5x fewer cars to provide a service that is less expensive than owning a car yourself, and it’s zero emissions. It’s not about everyone owning their own self-driving car, like the video author seems to think. With all the empty infrastructure, we can remake our cities to be more human friendly, and it certainly will have nicer air. As for the whole “but you still need all those roads, subways are better” argument, look up “the boring company”. The author is musing on her feelings and thoughts after a few rides, not researching what is actually being planned and made. As for my own use of a self-driving EV, I’m 60 years old now. It drives better than I do, now. It’s what will keep me independent and safe for many years to come. I paid for all of this several years ago. You probably don’t need to make that choice, as soon you will have the option of not owning your own, and car ownership, for most of you, will be a memory for you long after I am gone.
