One problem this could solve is drivers having accidents when falling asleep at the wheel. If an AI can take over when that happens and do so reliably, accident avoided and problem solved. If the driver could then instruct the AI to drive the next 5 hours to his home terminal while he sits in the drivers seat possibly asleep... he gets home alive. But I see all of the points made in this video. So... you're damned if you do, and damned if you don't. But there should always be a human driver in the truck. One solution to the pay question could be for the federal government to determine that a single human driver should be paid for 2, since you'll no longer need team drivers. Depending on the length of the run/time in truck it might be double the mileage pay or just double minimum wage.
