Sam did not found openAI. Sam was the CEO at YCombinator. He actively seeking out potentially lucrative startups & injected his money into them (I am sure YC was not too impressed with his behind the back deals). openAI was one of these startups that got con by Sam & eventually Sam became openAI.
Elon was the same. Elon did not found Tesla. Elon was an early investor & somehow wormed himself to become Tesla CEO.
Sam & Elon colute together because they are birds of the same feather.
