I got a bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering and a Master’s degree in Transportation Engineering from a top university, I’m also academically published and I haven’t found a job in my field since I graduated 5 years ago. I have been teaching English abroad to get by and take care of my family. I’m only making a third of what I should be making. I really feel like I wasted time in school and being “smart” hasn’t done anything for me. I’m now trying to upskill my career with AI & coding in hopes that I’ll finally find a job in transportation technologies or something. It’ll take me at least a year to get all my Certs and build a portfolio from scratch. It’s so sad, I feel so defeated and exhausted. I just wanted a job that would appreciate me and make me feel fulfilled. Living in this era sucks sometimes.
