I say its different. The ai isnt conscious, its just take bits from other artist work and making things with out thought, its just raw copying and meshing stuff together. Using reference is a completely different thing. Sure they are inspired but other artists and my take aspects but you have to remember that's going through a human brain with their own experiences tastes and ideas, its being merged into something through new ideas their own wants their experiences and effort to make something that has a soul behind it. The only real reason for ai is because we live in a world were everyone wants everything fast, nobody has any piectence anymore and nobody can take the slightest amount of discomfort. Why bother using your brain and putting your soul into something practicing over and over when you can just type a word in a get it instantly. AI art to make is just another sign of humans striving for constant need for short term gratification, is similar why put effort into anything when we can just automate it and not bother. Like many things in this age ppl are determined to get everything they want as quick as possible with as little effort as possible.
