I think AI poses less existential threats in the short-term but could certainly threaten humanity's existence in the coming decades. Yes, for the 2020s and early 2030s, it may just be disruptive w/ regards to jobs and misinformation but 15, 20 or 30 years from now it will likely cross a threshold whereby it becomes more of a real existential threat to humanity. We need to prepare for all scales of threat, from misinformation to species extinction.
