8 months on from this, I have yet to encounter an LLM capable of writing decent, enjoyable fiction. I'll admit I haven't been looking very hard but I assume if it were actually good at that they'd have shoved it in my face regardless. From my understanding of the guts of LLMs, the core problem they haven't been able to address is that writing gets a lot of its power from context and specificity. LLMs are poor at the former and categorically, _mechanically_ incapable of the latter. The way they remember things doesn't permit them to maintain any kind of specific detail across scenes, and they immediately start to fumble even on short scenes if there are multiple factions and people lying about what side they're on.
