I'm a new professor, and yep. The students are using chat gpt, the professors are using chat gpt. I haven't needed to because I teach freshmen, and it's easy to make stuff for them without it quickly. But some profs make slides, examples, etc. to save time. Some profs are also using AI to help them write research for publishing. I'm writing my first paper now and it's a long process because I'm not using AI. But there is a "publish or perish" pressure, so I think many profs are using it to write more papers more quickly. Even if it saves time and becomes acceptable later, I fully believe I should work without it for my first few years so that I have a baseline and I've proved I know what I'm doing. Others don't care as much about honesty, bit I'd hate to cheat from the beginning and then not be able to prove myself in a sticky situation later... That risk is not for me.
