You need a nervous system to be sentient. Or at least the real-world receptors to respond to said world. LLMs don't have that sensory apparatus - at all. Yes, there's an input, but input doesn't mean sensors. You could argue that military AI systems, equipped with a range of sensors, are at the bottom of the sentient scale. Same for an automated vacuum cleaner, or that thing that would mow my lawn if I had one. Then again, I'm not sure you can call them AI. Pattern recognition isn't necessarily the same as AI. In other words, this is a pipe dream. It's the same type of discussion you have with people who claim that the brain operates in quantum space. I'm like "Sure it does ... but what do you mean by that, how would that change anything for the brain?" And then they go off on some psychobabble tangent.
