What about using Ai art as a tool? So, not making Ai art and selling it on a canvas as "Art", but using Ai art to create concept art that is then manufactured into games, toys and other physical products. I personally sit in the middle. I consider myself someone that has a lot of great creative ideas, but I don't have the technical skill to make them come to life. Since using Ai to assist me, my creativity has increased, and I experienced a kind of creative catharsis that I didn't know I would feel. I do share sympathy with artisans that spent ages honing their craft and their skills, and I understand how Ai could be an unfair threat—especially if real people are overlooked for cheaper and worse automation. On the other hand, there may also be genuinely creative people that don't express their ideas so easily, and commissioning an artist to help them can be prohibitively expensive. So, now you have less overall talent potentially entering the market. I do think just saying "make me an image of Goku in watercolor" and selling that is slop and lazy, and I agree people shouldn't advertise themselves as "Artists" or get into artist alleys simply because they can write a prompt and get it printed. But I do wonder if there is a place for transformative Ai art. For example, I am making a card game. I used Ai to generate my art assets in pieces, and I put together the card designs and the deck box layout, designed the layout of the rulesheet, and put them all together; I wrote the rules, playtested it, and got prototypes made.
