As a hard core techie who daily drives arch Linux btw, has a solid understanding of various mechanical and electrical engineering topics, who uses cad and 3d printing to complete many projdcts, who has a decent low-level understanding of C++, HTML, and css, is actively working on learning python, and runs and maintains a home server, I can easily say, ai, especially generative models have very little practical use that benefits society. In fact, generative models are a net negative that actively drive up ram prices, uses far too much water, and demands too much electricity, while it's being used to run scam operations, plagiarize peoples work, take jobs, and feed lies down the throats of consumers thst has killed people who initially just wanted to find information without going through dozens of useless articles that abuse seo. Ai can be useful as a search engine. In fact, if an ai model just helped someone find web pages, bypassing the SEO that makes traditional search border on useless, that would be amazing. An ai really good at debugging. Not writing code, that's vibe coding. I mean helping debug a project. That would be useful. Ai engines doing one thing and one thing well is why it can be used to great success in the medical field. It just has to be trained on specific data and not every copyrighted work online. Ai companies operate off of illegal means, and they do not deserve to continue existing in their current state.
