I am not certain, but I would suspect Midjourney is not scraping anymore. They have their own original art being made every day. Most AI artists (and I would put this as a small number of people using an AI art generator) are making significant alterations or collaging multiple images together. The reason they are doing this is time. Let's say you have a client that wants 4 thumb nails for youtube videos per day. You will not be able to make a living out of drawing 4 pictures per day, the client can't afford it, but if you have 10 clients with 4 pictures per day, you might have a business there. Let's take another example. You get a request for a commission, and the customer comes back halfway through and says that it is not what they want. What if you could send them 8 images as part of your negotiation at the beginning so everybody has a clear idea of what they want? I don't believe artists will be replaced, but the turnaround period is going to go down a great deal. Personally, I am not an artist, but I do want quick pictures to provide to an artist to give clarity on what I am looking for or placeholder art that I would not pay for. I can go searching for something, or I can get a piece made almost on the fly.
