On the 'using AI for reference' point, I can confirm it is useless.
A while back I was doing value studies, and I pulled a picture off pinterest of a girl standing in front of an electrical tower, with power lines crossing the sky. As I started painting trying to match the complex shape of the tower, though, I came to realize that a lot of it was just straight up nonsense and the details made no sense. Sure enough, I looked into the source image and realized it was AI generated.
After that, I was a lot more careful where I sourced my references from.
