I think it depends. I did some art myself, but I don't have the time to focus solely on drawing or painting, thus, I can't get good to the point I can fully translate my imagination into an image. With AI you can write your idea and get immediate feedback. If the idea looks good, then you can proceed making our own version. Or for example, I can sketch something up, and use AI to fill in details, which I might as well describe. Not all AI images are simple scripts, some have thoughts in them, and even if the image itself might not be drawn by the author, maybe they spent time refining the idea and look of that. At the end of the day it's a tool. It's like saying DJ is not a real job, as you take already made songs and remix them with already made sounds and what not. Same as many things. AI is just the latest.
