I've been drawing for as long as I can remember but I started taking art seriously around 6 years ago. It's not going to be a career in my case because I'd rather keep it as a fun hobby while I explore some other big interests in a more stable field that pays well on its own, allowing me to fuel my art hobby. The most I'll do is make a commission here and there for someone I know personally. Even so, it's a bit frustrating and disheartening to realise my art is being shamelessly stolen by Evil Corporation #637 and fed to an AI. The AI itself is pretty neat, but the material it uses to generate these images needs to be sourced in a morally -and legally!- right way. The least these corporations should do is 1) make it an opt-in-based system and 2) compensate artists who have opted in financially on a per-image basis. Artists and AI can live in harmony only when the relationship isn't parasitic like how it is now. To my fellow artists: don't let those pro-AI people who claim they want to "replace" you bring you down. As you can see in the video, these people are *Redditors*. Terrible, I know! Horrifying, even! They're the same people who laugh at the same template memes over and over again; they're the same people who bully children for liking Fortnite; they're the same people who will tell you you're milking karma on a post where you show the memorial you built for a deceased loved one in Minecraft. These are the most unoriginal, bottom of the barrel people you can find; they make minion memes posted by your 45yo aunt seem hilarious in comparison. They're not worth your time or getting upset over. But for real though, don't let other people make you lose your passion. Don't let them demoralise you, because that's how they get you; demoralisation leads to compliance and complacency with what they want to push. Fight for what is right and continue making art and raising awareness about the unethical practises of the corporations who make these datasets like Sam has done with this video. That's how we can progress into a world where human art and AI art can co-exist and cooperate, launching us into a new era where we can all flourish!
