I'm pretty sure we'll figure it out eventually. I feel like Elon is right. All you need are just cameras. A person could drive a tesla with just the cameras.
However, as much as I'm a fan of the technology, all the self driving car companies are still going to hit a brick wall that is the inefficiency of a car as a mass transit vehicle.
