The process of creating something new needs something to go off of and that's been proven. When we create something new it has always been in some way effected by something we have seen, heard, learned, etc. before. The machine learning algorithm also just takes in something and creates something new. If we didn't have any field of reference we would not have been able to create all the amazing stuff we created the same goes for ai.
