For all his faults I think Musk is right about our best chance being to merge with AI and realistically it should also be easier than actually making AI because we are already have the I part down. All we'd need to make vastly more intelligent humans is to make ourselves better at the things were not good at, the things that the narrow "AI" that we already have is already good at. The only problem with this is who controls the chips that will enable us to do this and what control will they have over us but that's a whole other can of dystopia.
