Reading the comments I think most people are missing the point. An autonomous weapon is something as simple as a machine gun set below ground with a facial recognition camera poking above the grass, it pops up, kills the enemy and goes below ground again. That sounds fine if you plant it on a Terrorist trade route in a war zone where your troops can't be everywhere. The problem is when they get hold of the same tech and turn it against you.
