IMHO, people with negative comments here may be missing the bigger picture. I think this video is not about ideology or socialism or Marxism. And, in my mind, it's not about *now*. It's more about where things *could* be heading in the long term. In my view, UBI is a precursor to a proto-post scarcity economy. We may not be there quite yet, but it would seem inevitable given time and technological advancements.
"Socialist experiments" (if we have to use labels) in the past have all failed, quite naturally, because the essential factors for such economics were not there. That should be clear. In our current model of economics, the four factors needed for production are land, labor, capital, and entrepreneurship. No combination of those has been in abundance at the same time in any previous period of human history. But if you gradually get some of the components in abundance, i.e. labor (through automation) and energy (through renewable energy sources and nuclear fusion), then maybe you are starting to get there. Even Free/Open Source Software is a precursor to that: "In the long run, making programs free is a step toward the postscarcity world", Richard Stallman, the GNU Manifesto, 1985 (https://www.gnu.org/gnu/manifesto.en.html).
For a full blown post-scarcity economy, you'd probably also have to have some Utopian machinery such as Star Trek's "replicators" or "universal automation", in the way that it is described in Isaac Asimov's robot stories. Who knows how far into the future that is? I am neither for it or against it. I think it's not about ideology, I think it's about natural evolution. If and when the resources are there, it will probably happen. If the resources are not there, it will be another failed experiment. In the meantime, Switzerland was the first country to consider such a measure (which was rejected in a referendum http://www.bbc.com/news/world-europe-36454060, https://medium.com/economicsecproj/the-swiss-universal-basic-income-vote-2016-d74ae9beafea)
