Don't rights define the importance of the subject? Isn't the point we start giving robots more rights the point where civilisation will start shifting from being human to robot? How do we feel giving robots equal rights to humans? Or considering robots ability to feel and experience things is linked to the amount of processors and sensors and whatnot they have, we thus might have to grant them more rights than humans. How do we feel about that? The robots won't rise up and take over society. We'll just give it to them coz' we're too nice.
