Yeah, but it makes no sense to MANUFACTURE a sentient, sapient "robot" just to use for mining or menial labor. Most modern technology is more than adequate in handling low-level tasks, so there's not really any reason to make those one-task fulfilling machines any smarter. Self-checkout lanes aren't going to achieve "intelligence" randomly under their current situations.
