Consciousness will arise spontaneously when AI becomes sufficiently complex, just as it did with us.
I wouldn't be surprised if the internet itself were to become conscious and we could never turn that off.
It is inevitable that machine consciousness will happen so those of you who believe we shouldn't do it or that it unnecessary should start worrying.
