the only way it will work is if ALL the cars on the road are automatic and are connected to one another, so the cars will know other cars and will kno which way they are going etc. And there will need to be an alternative way for pedestrians, but by the time we have automatic cars, which won't be anytime soon, humans will be chipped with electronics as well so the cars will be connect to the pedestrian also.
