i think automation will takeover the highway in the next 10 years. all deliveries will be dropped at a convenient depot and people operating straight trucks and vans will do it from there. it's not that the automated system cannot navigate in tight proximity its that people don't always park accordingly or the dock is on an angle or if it gets boxed in the computer cannot get out and direct traffic out of its way like a driver could. everyone driving long haul can switch to local ltl, be home everyday and, "possibly" work normal hours .
