The whole "robots taking our jobs" thing is an issue that happens with all kinds of technology shifts and yet we've managed to overcome those. My issue with the development of AI and advanced technology is as a writer (whose job is irreplaceable by robots because even if a robot can write a novel there isn't a supply and demand situation, it's only a competition for attention in the market) is the closer we get to creating proper AIs the less creative freedom I have when writing fictions about AIs. When something becomes real it makes it harder to write a story about. I can't write stories about the first man on the moon without explicitly making it an alternate history story and I still have to heavily tie it to reality. There's only a limited amount of time left for first-interstellar travel or first-AI and the social ramifications stories.
So I'm all for the creation of AIs and sweet sci-fi technology... but they just need to happen AFTER I have written books about them.
