I think the difference between a human and a robot is that with humans, there's a small degree of unpredictability.  Sure, humans do act in predictable ways most of the time (salesmen, psychologists and campaign strategists all base their methods on patterns of predictable behavior), but there's always the possibility that *this* time, *this* one human, may not act in the way you expect.  A computer is always acting in a predictable way.  If we ever built a computer that used some randomizing element, such as quantum uncertainty, it may act more like a human.
