Make a social experiment that goes like this:
1. Give some respondent a Gatebox
2. for a few month of year, force them to interact with anyone installed on their Gatebox
3. in an undefined time, threaten the respondednt that their Gatebox will be replaced with a new Gatebox, without any abilities to transfer the memories, and other customized part including what the Gatebox had learned, and give the respondent ability to plea so their Gatebox will not be replaced.
4. Measure how attached the respondent from their plea
If the outcome is the respondent is really attached to the character in the Gatebox, then robot should have a basic Rights.
