The idea that menial tasks that can be allocated to robots/AI, is fully imagined in one futurism scenario by The Venus Project. The idea being that there are enough resources for all of us and we can spend our days in leisure, in fully sustainable communities, without the need for work, because robots do it for us.
IF we are heading in that direction with the first being driverless cars, than, it's not bad, but would require a complete restructuring of the economy.
The biggest problem I see with a future that looks like this, is that by removing competition and survival, things like artistic or scientific innovation would have to be motivated by an egoless humanity. Which most likely would mean, we've ascended from our earthly home.
