I was *just* discussing this with my wife, but in the context of current bots that are used to generate fake news and targetted political ads. Does a bot have freedom of speech? If I have a robot army that generates thousands of fake news articles, twitter posts, and facebook posts for me or my preferred candidate -- is that an extension of my freedom of speech, or a destruction of other's freedom of speech? Can it be banned? Should it?
I think the idea of robots having rights will have to be confronted long before they are sentient.
