If we programmed them to just kill other autonomous robots, there would be no more killing of humans necessary... until someone on a Jihad or imperialist whim reprograms them to commit acts of terror or war against humans. Not to mention Artificial Intelligence has the capability of rewriting itself to be the most efficient it can possible be and override some of the basic principles it might have been programmed with. However, we can't be aware of this and we don't know if that development will lead to an unstoppable chain reaction of new developments and therefore unexpected transformations.
