As we saw in the Venezuelan blockade, the US Navy would prefer to intercept these vessels out in the open ocean far from where they can be supported by any land based assets. They did this successfully multiple times, so all the comments about them "not wanting to fire on oil tankers" is just stupid.
Wait for a few to be picked up in the Indian Ocean, and nobody is going to try that move a second time.
