i ended up just using Qoest API for the heavy lifting. their scraping handles the js rendering and proxy rotation so im not stuck debugging why some site suddenly hates my ip.
the token burn you described is nightmare fuel tho. feeding bot challenge html into an llm is like the most expensive no op possible lol.
