My view as a Canadian: the US are not investing in education and they have a strong religious conservative base in the midwest. As AI and robotics vastly reduce the need for white collar labor and some service/warehouse jobs, immigration will probably slow down and people who are struggling to find work will become anti-immigration. My prediction is that it will fold unto itself, become more conservative, less educated, with a bigger gap between rich and poor. The military might become a major way for low middle class people to find employment. If the US tries to take advantage of the tech companies for their profits, those companies will just leave to greener pasture where they are less taxed and regulated. Maybe you'll have a few cowboy states who let tech companies run their own cities as independent micro-states in order to make themselves attractive and provide jobs for their population (they won't tax the companies but will tax the workers).
