Polarization is a classic reaction to any breakthrough technology, especially when there’s a lack of transparency on how it works (and misinformation only fuels the fire).
Thats said, I think we’re looking at a peerless radical shift. Unlike previous tools, AI is designed to scale infinitely and is evolving into an entirely new species of intelligence (following the human one), rather than just another utility.
